Morcha rebels stay put in polls
VIVEK CHHETRI, TT, Darjeeling, Nov. 18: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha’s dream of winning elections to all four hill municipalities uncontested received a jolt with Independents remaining in the fray in five wards of the Mirik civic body.
When the withdrawal of the nominations closed today, the Morcha acted swiftly and announced the expulsion of three Independents.
“Of the five candidates who did not withdraw the nominations, three were our party members. We have expelled them for going against the party decision. The other two candidates don’t belong to the Morcha and are probably backed by the GNLF,” said Morcha general secretary Roshan Giri.
Eight persons had filed papers as Independents in six of the nine seats in Mirik. While Saraswati Tamang (ward 3), Nima Singh Tamang (ward 6) and Sunil Bomzom (ward 7) withdrew their nominations this afternoon, the other Independents decided to stay in the fray. The five are Bijay Tamang (ward 6), Roshan Tamang (ward 7), Krishna Sarkri (ward 8), Bijay Tamang (ward 9) and Pemba Tshering Bhutia (ward 2).
The candidates expelled from the Morcha are Bijay Tamang, Roshan Tamang and Krishna Sarki. “Bijay Tamang was a member of the party’s town committee, while Roshan Tamang was with the Yuva Morcha. Krishna Sarki belonged to the Nari Morcha,” said Giri.
The municipal elections will be held on December 11 and Morcha candidates will take on the Independents in five seats. The rest of the wards have been won by M.K. Zimba (ward 3), Manikala Ghalay (ward 1), Mala Subba (ward 4) and Barun Subba (ward 5). This essentially means that the Morcha needs to win one more seat to take control of the municipality.
If the Morcha loses all the five seats, it will have to sit in the Opposition and this could come as a major blow to the party in Mirik. Notable leaders who have to fight the elections are Arun Ghisingh (ward 2), the vice-president of the Morcha’s Mirik Mahakuma Parishad, and L.B. Rai (ward 7), a central committee member of the party and a former chairperson of the Mirik municipality.
The Morcha has declared that Rai will be the chairperson of the Mirik municipality if the party wins the polls.
After retreating from the contest, Saraswati Tamang said she had filed the papers to drive home the point that no leader could carry on without taking others on board.
“Even though I was an ex-commissioner of the Mirik municipality and a member of the Morcha, certain leaders of the branch committee used to domineer over me. I was never against the party but wanted to prove a point. As I am convinced with the assurances of the central committee members, I decided to withdraw the nomination in the interest of the party,” she said.
Bijay Tamang, one of the expelled Morcha members, said: “We do not have any negative attitude towards the party but since this is a democratic country, we have decided to contest the elections.”
Although the Morcha has won all the seats uncontested in Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong, the boards there can be formed only after the election process in Mirik is over. Counting of votes in Mirik will take place on December 13.
GJMM wins unopposed in 3 civic bodies
SNS, DARJEELING/KURSEONG, 18 NOV: All the GJMM candidates in Darjeeling and Kurseong civic poll have received the certificates of the winners after being declared elected unopposed. The certificates would be provided to the GJMM nominees who have been declared elected unopposed in Kalimpong municipality poll tomorrow.
However, as far as the nine-ward Mirik civic body is concerned there would be election in five wards ~ ward Nos. 2,6,7,8 and 9 ~ in view of the Independent candidates, mostly GJMM dissidents, remaining in the poll fray. Four GJMM candidates from wards number 1, 3, 4 and 5 were declared elected unopposed.
According to a senior administrative official, the GJMM candidates in 79 of the 84 wards spread across the four municipalities in the Darjeeling Hills have been declared elected unopposed. “However, elections would be held in five wards in Mirik as per the schedule on 11 December. The results would be announced on 13 December,” a senior administrative official said.
The Darjeeling sub-divisional officer, Mr Tamal Das today distributed the certificates to 32 candidates for the 32-ward Darjeeling municipality. He said, “The municipality board would be formed only after the election result would be announced. The date would be fixed later in consultation with the state government and the state election commission,” he added. The Kurseong SDO, Mr Ranjan Kumar Jha, distributed the winning certificates to the GJMM candidates in Kurseong.

Bail granted to Tamang murder accused
ENS, Kolkata, 19 Nov: The Calcutta High Court on Friday granted bail to Subash Tamang, one of the accused in the Madan Tamang murder case but rejected the bail of three others — Asish Tamang, Dipen Malea and Sudesh Raimajhi — on the ground that there were sufficient evidence against them in the case diary.
Madan Tamang, president of All India Gorkha League, was hacked to death in broad daylight on May 21, 2010 at Darjeeling Mall.
Subash, who was arrested by CID on June 3, had got a bullet injury in his leg at the time of the murder. His counsel, Sudipta Mitra, however told the court that Subhash had gone to the Mall to buy medicines when the security guard of the Gorkha leader started firing indiscriminately as a result of which he was hit by a bullet.
Mitra said that no eye witnesses stated about his presence at the place of occurrence during the killing at Mall.
After going through the case diary the Division Bench of Justice Ashim Kumar Roy and Justice Shukla Kabir (Singha) granted him bail on the ground that there was no sufficient material against him.
But the Division Bench rejected the bail petitions of other three on the ground that there was sufficient material in the case diary. The bench said that several eyewitnesses have stated about the presence of Asish, Sudesh and Dipen at the time of the incident.
The Division Bench also directed the CBI, which is currently probing the case, to complete its investigation as soon as possible. The prime accused in the case, Nicol Tamang, is still absconding after he escaped from the CID custody in August 2010.
TT, Calcutta: A division bench of Calcutta High Court on Friday granted conditional bail to Subhas Tamang, an accused in the Madan Tamang murder case. The court has directed Subhas not to go out of Darjeeling town till further orders. He has been asked to furnish a bail bond of Rs 20,000 with two sureties from two persons from Darjeeling and he would have to visit the CBI camp office in Darjeeling every Monday, Wednesday and Friday till further orders. The court, however, declined to grant bail to three other accused who had also applied for reprieve this time.

ANIRBAN CHOUDHURY, TT, Kalchini (Alipurduar), Nov. 18: The dissident Adivasi leaders who wanted to join the hill administration today said they would not accept any action against them by the state leadership.

The state committee of the Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad is slated to meet in Calcutta on November 26 to decide on the action to be taken against five leaders from the Terai and the Dooars.
“Before signing the agreement with the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha at Mungpoo, we had conferred with more than 300 members of our units in the Terai and Dooars. We will attend the meeting in Calcutta on November 26 when the state committee takes a decision on our replies to the showcause notices. The state committee will have to declare their decision for or against us. We will not abide by any decision against us,” said John Barla, the former president of the Dooars-Terai regional unit of the Parishad.
Barla, Parishad state secretary Tezkumar Toppo and Sukra Munda, the president of the Progressive Tea Workers Union, an affiliate of the forum, were among the five leaders showcaused by the state committee.
The five were asked to explain why they had entered into an agreement with the Morcha to include the Adivasi-dominated regions in the GTA.
Today, Barla and Munda convened a meeting at the Kalchini Athletic Club where they explained their stand to about 300 Parishad members. Parishad state president Birsa Tirkey came under severe criticism at the meeting. Some supporters even said Tirkey had no right to take decisions on the Adivasis in the Terai and the Dooars.
“We explained to the Parishad members at the meeting that why we had signed the agreement with the Morcha. While Birsa Tirkey was sitting in Calcutta, it was we who had fought the Morcha. Tirkey says the Parishad is not willing to yield an inch of land to the GTA, but he can’t say how development can take place here,” said Barla.
Contacted over the phone, Tirkey said: “Barla has been suspended from his post and he cannot convene a meeting. He is trying to fool the people of our community who are largely illiterate.”
An observer said the rebels know well that the state committee will take stern action against them. “Prior to that, the dissidents are trying to consolidate their position in the Terai and the Dooars.”
मदन तामङ हत्याकाण्ड सरकारले सहयोग गरिरहेको छैन-लिगमनोज वोगटी, कालिमन्युज, कालेबुङ, 17 नोभेम्बर। गोर्खालिग नेता मदन तामङको हत्या सम्बन्धमा अहिले जॉंच पढ्तालको कार्यलाई नितान्तै धीमा गरिएको थाहा लागेको छ। गोर्खालिग महासचिव प्रताप खाती अनुसार यस मामिलामा सीबीआईलाई बङ्गाल सरकारले सहयोग गरिरहेको छैन। 21 मईको दिन दार्जीलिङको क्लब साइडमा मदन तामङको दिउँसै निर्मम हत्या भएको थियो। अझसम्म पनि हत्या कसले गरेको हो भन्ने कुरा बङ्गाल सरकारको पुलिस प्रशासनले खोजी निकाल्न सकेको छैन। अहिलेसम्म नै दार्जीलिङमा भएको राजनैतिक हत्याहरूको हत्याराहरूको पक्राउ पुलिस प्रशासनले गरेको छैन। दार्जीलिङमा हुने हत्याको मामिलामा न त सीआईडी नै काम लागेको छ न त सीबीआई नै। अहिलेसम्मका राजनैतिक हत्याहरूको मामिलामा लगाइएका सीआईडी र सीबीआई राजनैतिकरुपले आँखामा धुलो हाल्ने सरकारी षडयन्त्र नै रहेको पीडितहरूको गुनासो रहेको छ।
गोरामुमो कालमा भएको यस्तै ठूला नेताहरूको हत्याहरूको मामिलामा न त सीआईडीले न त सीबीआईले नै हत्याराहरूसम्म पुगेर देखाएको छ। जब पनि हत्या हिंसाको आन्दोलनपछि सरकारसित मिलेर जनताको आकांक्षा विरद्धको व्यवस्था ग्रहण गर्ने काम हुन्छ तब नै हत्याराहरू खोजी निकाल्न प्रशासन पक्षको असफलता देखापरेको छ। गोर्खालिग नेतृ भारती तामङले सरकारले हत्याराहरूसित मिलेर हत्यारा पक्राउ गर्नमा निष्क्रियता देखाएको आरोप बारम्बार लगाउँदै आइरहेकी छन्। तिनले स्पष्ट भनेकी छन्, मदन तामङको हत्या राजनैतिक आकांक्षाको निम्ति गरिएको थियो किन भने मदन तामङ छुट्टैराज्य बाहेकको कुनै पनि व्यवस्थाको विरोधी थिए।
तिनले भनेका थिए कि गोर्खा जनमुक्ति मोर्चाले अर्को दागोपाप थापिरहेको छ। त्यसबेला कसैले पनि पत्याएनन् तर तिनको भविष्यवाणी सही निस्कियो। गोर्खालिग महासचिव प्रताप खातीको भनाइ अनुसार वास्तवमा गोर्खा जनमुक्ति मोर्चाकै नेताहरूले मदन तामङले भनेकै दागोपाप थाप्नको निम्ति मदन तामङको हत्या गरेको हो। तर सरकारले उनीहरूसित नै हात मिलाएको छ। सरकारले हात हत्यारासित नै मिलाउँछ किन भने हत्याराहरूको दलले छुट्टैराज्यको मुद्दा बेचिसकेको छ। मुद्दा बेचेकोले नै सरकारले मोर्चालाई पैसा, पावर र चौकी दिएर फेरि पहाडमा अर्को घिसिङ र घिसिङ्गिय सत्ता स्थापना गरिरहेको छ। तिनले भने, जनताको छुट्टैराज्यको मुद्दा हत्यासित साट्ने मोर्चालाई सरकारले गोर्खाल्याण्डको आवाज दबाउनैको निम्ति स्थापित गरिरहेको छ।
जनताले यो भित्रको राजनीति बुझेको छैन तर कुनै न कुनै दिन जनताले वास्तविकता थाहा पाउँछ नै, कुनै न कुनै दिन हत्याराहरूलाई पक्राउ गर्न सरकार बाध्य हुन्छ नै, हामी भारत सरकारको न्यायपालिकालाई विश्वास गरेर बसेका छौं। गोर्खालिगले मदन तामङको हत्याराहरूको सूचीमा गोर्खा जनमुक्ति मोर्चा अध्यक्ष विमल गुरूङ, महासचिव रोशन गिरी, विनय तामङ, आशा गुरूङ तथा अन्यको नाम प्राथमिकीमा उल्लेख गरेको छ।
खातीले भने, कुनै पनि हत्याको मामिलामा प्राथमिकीमा जसको नाम छ उसको पहिला जॉंच हुनुपर्ने, तर यसो भएन। हामीलाई लाग्छ, निकोल भगाउनुमा पनि गतिलो नाटक भएको छ।
गोर्खालिगले आफ्नो अडान स्पष्ट के पारेको छ भने हत्या गोर्खा जनमुक्तिले नै गरेको हो। हत्या सम्बन्धमा जुन डिजिटल फाइल राज्यका मुख्यमन्त्रीसित छ, त्यसलाई ममता व्यानर्जीले आफ्नो हातमा लिएर मोर्चालाई छुट्टैराज्यको आवाज दबाउँदै जनताको विरुद्धमा फेरि अर्को दागोपाप स्थापना गर्न बाध्य गराएको छ। तिनले भने, वास्तवमा विमल गुरूङ मदन तामङको काउण्टर नेताकोरुपमा केन्द्र र राज्यका गोर्खाल्याण्ड विरोधी नेताहरूले स्थापित गरेका हुन्। किन भने राज्य र केन्द्रका नेताहरूलाई थाहा थियो कि मदन तामङ छुट्टै राज्य बाहेक कुनै पनि कुरामा सम्झौता गर्ने वृत्तिका मान्छे होइनन्। यसैकारण तिनको काउण्टर नेताको रुपमा विमल गुरूङलाई स्थापित गरिएको हो। यसै कारण नै आन्दोलनलाई जनपीडक बनाइयो।
जनतालाई सास्ती दिइएपछि विकासको कुरा उठाउने बाटो बनाइयो। जनतालाई केही कुरा थाहा छैन, तर सधैँ जनता अबोध भएर बस्ने छैन। तिनले अझ भने, जनताले थाहा गर्नुपर्छ, मदन तामङले मोर्चाले दागोपाप थाप्दैछ भनेर मदन तामङले नै भनेका हुन् अनि त्यसको उत्तरमा विमल गुरूङले दागोपाप होइन दागोपाप भन्दा ठूलो हो भनेका थिए। त्यतिबेला मोर्चाले जनतालाई छुट्टैराज्यको आन्दोलन गरिरहेको भनेको थियो तर सम्झौता भने दागोपापको निम्ति भइसकेको थियो। यो कुरा मदन तामङले नभनेको भए उहिल्यै मोर्चाले दागोपाप थापिसक्ने थियो। मोर्चालाई मदन तामङले सॉंचो कुरा अघि ल्याएपछि जनताको सामु लाज बचाउनु साह्रो पर्यो अनि त्यसको फलस्वरुप मदन तामङको हत्या गरियो। गोर्खालिगले गोर्खा जनमुक्ति मोर्चालाई बारम्बार दोष लगाए पनि पुलिस वा सीबीआईले भने यो कुरालाई प्रमाणित गरेको छैन। जबसम्म कानूनीरुपले मोर्चाका नेताहरूलाई दोषी पाइन्न तबसम्म आधिकारिकरुपले उनीहरूलाई हत्या गरेको केवल आरोप मात्र लगाउन सकिन्छ दाबी गर्न सकिन्न। तर जुन पुलिस प्रशासन वा सीबीआईले हत्या सम्बन्धमा जॉंच गरिरहेको छ, त्यसको उन्नति सबैको सामू छर्लङ्ग नै छ।
सीबीआईले निकोल तामाङ नेपालमा रहेको अनि परिवारसित कुराकानी भइरहेको कुरा सार्वजनिक गरेको थियो तर निकोलको परिवारले सीबीआईले झुटो बोलिरहेको स्पष्ट पार्यो। अहिलेसम्म नै नेपाल छ भनिएको निकोललाई सीबीआईले खोजी निकाल्न सकेको छैन। खाती अनुसार सीबीआईले काम गरिरहेको छ तर सरकारको सहयोग सीबीआईलाई छैन। तिनले जनाए अनुसार इण्डिन एक्सप्रेसले प्रकाशित गरेको मदन हत्याकाण्डको अवधी मोर्चाका नेताहरूले गरेको कुराकानीको डिजिटल फाइल अघिल्लो मुख्यमन्त्रीसित थियो तर सरकार परिवर्तन हुनसाथ त्यो फाइल ममता व्यानर्जीकोमा पुगेको छ। त्यो पाइल सीबीआईलाई दिइनुपर्ने हो तर दिइएको छैन। किन दिएको छैन, यही वास्तवमा गम्भीर प्रश्न हो। यता बङ्गालको पुलिसले पनि सीबीआईलाई सहयोग गरिरहेको छैन। यसै कारण नै जॉंच प्रक्रिया ढिलो भइरहेको छ। तर लीगलाई आशा अनि विश्वास छ कि हत्याराहरू कुनै न कुनै दिन पक्राउ पर्छ नै। यता अहिले मदन तामङको छोरा संयोगको हत्या गर्ने धम्कीपूर्ण आएको म्यासेज पनि निक्कै गम्भीर मुद्दा बनेको छ। यसभित्रको राजनैतिक चलखेलबारे गोर्खालिगले छानबिन गरिरहेको पनि थाहा लागेको छ।

मनोज वोगटी, कालिमन्युज, कालेबुङ, 17 नोभेम्बर। तीनदिन बित्यो जिना प्रधानका हत्याराहरूको अझसम्म सुइँको पाइएको छैन। शंका गरिएका अनि स्थानीय बासिन्दासित कालेबुङ पुलिसले सोधपुछको क्रम तीब्र पारेको छ। यता यस्तो अमानविय कृत्य गर्नेलाई कठोर दण्ड दिइनुपर्छ अनि पुलिस प्रशासनले जॉंच पड्ताललाई कठोर र तीब्र पार्नुपर्ने माग बढ्न थालेको छ। धेरैवर्ष अघि बोङबस्तीका एक बालिकालाई जङ्गलबीच लगेर बलात्कारपछि हत्या गरिएको घटना भएको देखिएको थियो। त्यस बालिकालाई बलात्कार गरेर हत्या गरिएको थियो किन भने कुहिसकेको बालिकाको शव नाङ्गो थियो। त्यस बालिकाको हत्यारा को थिए आजसम्म पत्तो लागेको छैन। त्यस्तै घटना पेदोङमा पनि भर्खर दोहोरियो। जीना प्रधानलाई अर्धनग्न अवस्थामा पाइएको थियो भने टाउकोमा गहिरो चोट थियो। क्षेत्रका मानिसहरूले जीनालाई पनि बलात्कार गरेपछि हत्या गरिएको अनुमान नै गरेका छन्। तर पुलिसले यस विषयमा आधिकारिकरुपले अहिले नै बताएको छैन। अहिले छानबिन चलिरहेको छ।
यता युवतीको शवको फोरेन्सिक रिपोर्ट पनि आइपुगेको छैन। जुनरुपले जीनाको निर्मम हत्या गरियो यसले भने स्थानीय युवतीहरू मात्र होइन कालेबुङका छोरी चेली नै असुरक्षित रहेको जुल्बोले बताएको छ। जुल्बोका अध्यक्ष डीबी प्रधानले भने, जीनाको हत्या निर्ममरुपले गरिएको छ। तिनका हत्याराको पक्राउ शीघ्र हुनुपर्छ। यसको निम्ति कालेबुङ पुलिसले सक्रियरुपले हत्याराको खोजी गर्नुपर्छ। तिनले अझ भने, पेदोङवासीले पनि हत्यारा खोजी निकाल्न भरपुर सहयोग गर्नुपर्छ। जीनाको हत्याले कालेबुङमा नै चेलीहरू असुरक्षित रहेको प्रमाणित भएको भन्दै तिनले भने, हत्यारा जो पनि होस्, पेदोङमा नै लुकेर बसेको हुनसक्छ। हत्यारा खोजी निकाल्न कुनै कसर बॉंकी राखिनु हुँदैन। तिनले जुल्बोले कालेबुङ पुलिसलाई सातादिनको समय दिएको बताउँदै अझ भने, साता दिनमा पनि हत्यारा खोजी निकालेन भने जुल्बोले कालेबुङ थाना घेराउ गर्ने छ। केवल जुल्बो मात्र होइन पेदोङवासीको पनि भनाइ यही नै रहेको छ।
हिजो जीनाको शवयात्रा जुलूसमा परिवर्तन हुनुपरेको थियो। उनीहरूको भनाइ अनुसार हत्यारालाई कठोर दण्ड दिइनुपर्छ अनि हत्यारा खोजी निकाल्नुपर्छ। जुल्बोका अध्यक्ष प्रधानले भने अनुसार जुन चेलीमाथि यस्तो कुकर्म गरेर हत्या गरियो, यसको विरुद्धमा नारी मोर्चा सक्रियरुपले अघि आउनुपर्छ। हत्यारालाई भाग्न दिनु हुँदैन। गतिलै सञ्जाल बनाएर हत्यारा पक्राउमा सहयोग गर्नुपर्छ, किन भने यो घटना केवल जीनासित मात्र होइन कुनै पनि चेलीसित फेरि पनि घट्न सक्छ। यता कालेबुङ पुलिस प्रशासनलाई चाप दिँदै पेदोङ अनि कालेबुङमा इण्डियन क्याथलिक युथ मुभमेन्ट दार्जीलिङ सिक्किम युनिटले व्यापक पोष्टरिङ गरेको छ। घटनाप्रति भर्त्सना जनाउँदै यो सङ्गठनले न्यायिक जॉंचको माग गरेको छ।
तारा सुन्दासको चेतावनी 'नियम तोड्नेलाई म न्यायलमा उभ्याउने छु'
मनोज बोगटी, कालिमन्युंज, कालेबुङ, 17 नोभेम्बर। माकपा नेता तारा सुन्दासले कालेबुङ महाविद्यालयमा पुस्तकालय निर्माणको निम्ति सरकारबाट आएको राशि कलेज सञ्चालन समितिले कुनै टेण्डर नगरी नै यतिका दिनसम्म राखेको विवादलाई अझ चर्काएका छन्। तिनले आज एक पत्रकार सम्मेलन डाक्दै महा विद्यालयपक्षबाट दिएको स्पष्टिकरणको खण्डन गरे। सुन्दासले सरकारबाट कालेबुङ महाविद्यालयको पुस्तकालयको निम्ति आएको राशि कलेज सञ्चालन समितिले टेण्डर नै नगरी कलेजको खातामा राखेर सुद खाएको आरोप लगाएको थिए। तिनले भनेका थिए, सरकारबाट आएको राशिलाई शीघ्र नै कार्यान्वयनमा ल्याइनुपर्छ। राशिलाई कार्यान्वयमा ल्याउनको निम्ति तिनले शीग्र नै टेण्डर गर्नु पर्ने पनि जनाएका थिए। तिनले भनेका थिए, यदि बिना टेण्डर पैसा प्रयोग गरे सञ्चालन समिताका सचिव अनि अध्यक्षलाई अदालतमा उभ्याउने छु। सुन्दासको यस्तो चेतावनीपछि महाविद्याय सञ्चालन समिति अनि कलेजका प्राध्यापक डा. आर पी ढकालले सरकारबाट आएको राशि कलेजको सञ्चालन समितिले प्रयोग नगरेर बिल्डिङ निर्माण समितिले प्रयोग गर्ने बताएका थिए। तिनले भनेका थिए, यसको पुरा लेखा जोखा रहने छ। यो विद्यार्थीहरुको निम्ति आएको राशि हो, यसलाई सही उपयोग गरिने छ।
तिनको स्पष्टीकरणलाई खण्डन गर्दै आज तारा सुन्दासले भने, महाविद्यालयले सरकारी राशि नियम अनुरुप प्रयोग गर्न चाहिरहेको छैन। महाविद्यालयले सरकारी राशिमा आफू खुशी गरिरहेको छ। म आज पनि चेतावनी दिन्छु यदि नियम अनुसार राशिको प्रयोग गरेन भने म यससित सम्बन्धित सबैलाई न्यायलयमा उभ्याउने छु। विद्यार्थीहरूको निम्ति आएको राशि राख्न हुँदैन, यसको प्रयोग हुनुपर्छ। सरकारी राशिलाई कसैले पनि बिना टेण्डर प्रयोग गर्न नपाउँने नियम रहेको छ। यसलाई महाविद्यालयले ख्याल गरोस्। मैले नियमलाई पालन गर भनिरहेको छु। नियमलाई पालन गर्दा के हुन्छ? कसलाई असुविधा छ? विद्यार्थीहरूको निम्ति आएको राशिलाई कतिपयले व्यक्तिगत कामको निम्ति खर्च गरिरहेको समेत आरोप लगाएका छन्।तिनले भने, यसको प्रमाण दिनुपरे मसित छ। प्रमाण दिएको दिन कसैलाई असुविधा नहोस्। न्यायलयमा जाकिने मन भए नियमलाई तोड्दै व्यक्तिगत खर्चमा पैसाको प्रयोग गर्दा हुन्छ। तर विद्यालय जस्तो गरिमामय क्षेत्रमा रहेकाहरुले यस्तो निकृष्ट काम नगरेको राम्रो हो। आइपरेको खण्डमा म प्रमाण देखाउने छु।
परियारले झुटो बोलिरहेका छन्-खाती
मनोज बोगटी, कालिमन्युज, कालेबुङ, 17 नोभेम्बर। कालेबुङ नगरपालिकाका पूर्वघोषित अध्यक्ष एलबी परियारले झुटो बोलिरहेको आरोप गोर्खालिग महासचिव प्रताप खातीले लगाएका छन्। गोर्खालिगको महकुमा अध्यक्ष त्रिभुवन राईले चुनाउ आयुक्तलाई पत्र लेख्दै एलबी परियार दार्जीलिङ शिक्षा पर्षदका अध्यक्ष रहेको अनि तिनलाई सरकारी अधिसूचना जारी गरेर अध्यक्षको पद्मा नियुक्त गरेको बताउँदै सरकारी वेतनभोगी परियारले नगरपालिकाको चुनाउमा भागीदारी बन्नु चुनाउ आयोगको आचार संहिताको विरुद्धमा रहेको बताएका थिए। तिनले शीघ्र नै परियारको उम्मेदारिता खारेज हुनुपर्ने माग पनि आयोगसित गरेका थिए। तर त्यसको जवाबमा एलबी परियारले आफू शिक्षा पर्दषका नितान्तै अस्थायी समितिका अध्यक्ष रहेको मात्र होइन तिनले सरकारी वेतन नखाएको समेत स्पष्टिकरण दिएका थिए।
परियारको तिनै स्पष्टिकरणमाथि प्रतिक्रिया गर्दै गोर्खालिग महासचिव खातीले परियारले झुटो बोलेको दाबी गरेका छन्। तिनले भने, परियारलाई सरकारी नोटिफिकेशन जारी गरेर पर्षदको अध्यक्ष पदमा नियुक्ति गरिएको हो। तिनले वेतन खाएका हुन्। यसको प्रमाण मसित छ। परियारले वेतन खाएको मात्र होइन टीएडीए पनि लाखौं खाएका हुन्। यदि परियारले होइन भनेर प्रमाणित गर्छन् भने म राजनीतिबाट नै सन्यास लिन्छु।
तर सही हो भने के परियारले पनि राजनीति छोड्छ? यस सम्बन्धमा परियारसित कुनै सम्पर्क गर्न सकिएन तर तिनले अघिबाट नै यस मामिलामा आफू चोखो रहेको दाबी गरेका छन्। तिनले खातीले लगाएको आरोपलाई सोझै खण्डन गर्दै वेतन नखाएको नै स्पष्टिकरण दिएका थिए।
कालेबुङ नगरपालिका मोर्चाको हातमा - मोर्चाले विजय जुलूस निकाल्ने
मनोज बोगटी, कालिमन्युज, कालेबुङ, 17 नोभेम्बर। कालेबुङ नगरपालिका गोर्खा जनमुक्तिको हातमा गएको छ। नगरपालिका चुनाउमा कसैले पनि मोर्चालाई टक्कर गरेन। मोर्चाको विजय निर्विरोध भएको छ। पहिलोपल्ट नगरपालिका चुनाउको इतिहासमा विपक्ष चुनाउ नलडेको घटना बनेको छ। यस अघि गोरामुमोको वर्चस्वको बेलामा पनि विपक्षले चुनाउमा भाग लिएको थियो तर यसपल्ट मोर्चाका उम्मेदवारहरूसित प्रतिद्वन्द्विता कसैले गरेन। विपक्षले अगणतान्त्रिक परिस्थिति रहेको कारण नै चुनाउ नलडेको बताएको छ।
यता मोर्चा शिविरमा भने रौनक छाएको छ। मृदुला सुब्बा बाहेक कालेबुङ नगरपालिकामा सबै नयॉं अनुहार हुन्।
नगरपालिका अध्यक्ष समेत नै नयॉं अनुहार हुन्। यस अघि पनि मोर्चाको हातमा नगरपालिका गएको थियो। त्यसबेला नोर्देन लामा नगराध्यक्ष थिए भने उपाध्यक्ष बिजय सुन्दास थिए।
यसपालि उनीहरूलाई मौका दिइएन। जो पनि नगरपालिकाका उम्मेदवार भए सबै नै राजनीतिमा उति सक्रिय अनुहारहरू होइनन्। यद्धपि मोर्चासित भने शुरूदेखि नै आवद्ध रहेर आन्दोलनमा जोडिएका हुन्।
आज उनीहरूलाई लिएर मोर्चाको कालेबुङ महकुमा समितिले एक बैठक गर्यो। वैठकमा मोर्चा कालेबुङका महासचिव शुभ प्रधान लगायत अन्य प्रतिनिधिहरुको उपस्थिति थियो। वैठकमा उम्मेदवारहरूलाई नगरपालिकामा धेरैवटा जिम्मेवारी रहेको बताइयो। मुख्यगरी ट्राफिकको समस्या, डम्पिङ अनि स्ट्याण्डको समस्यामा उनीहरूलाई ध्यान केन्द्रित गराइएको छ। कालेबुङ नगरको प्रमुख समस्या भने डम्पिङ रहेको छ।
यता प्रचार प्रसार सचिव कुमार चामलिङले भोलि नगरपालिकामा मोर्चाको निर्विरोध बिजयको अवसरमा नगरमा विजय जुलूस निकाल्ने बताएका छन्। जुलूसमा नगरवासीलाई सहभागीको निम्ति अपील गरिएको छ।
जल विद्युत परियोजनाको विरोधले पश्चिम सिक्किम थर्किन्दैछ
एक हप्तामा सुरुङ खन्न बन्द नगरे क्रान्तिको निम्ति घऱलौरी निस्कनेछौः सेभ सिक्किम
प्रविण खालिंग, कालिमन्युज, गान्तोक, 18 ऩोभेम्बर। सिक्किमा पुनः एकपल्ट जल विद्युत परियोजनाको विरोधमा विरोधको आगो दन्किन थालेको छ। पश्चिम सिक्किमको पवित्र राथोङछु खोलामा प्रस्तावित 97 मेगावाट विद्युत उत्पादन क्षमता भएको टासिडिङ जल विद्युत परियोजनालाई कुनै पनि हालतमा बन्द गर्नुपर्ने माग लिए स्थानीय जनता आन्दोलित बनेका छन्। सेभ सिक्किम नामक जनताले खोलेको संस्थाले यसको प्रतिनिधित्व गर्दै आज राज्यपाल बीपी सिंह, मुख्यसचिवलाई एउटा ज्ञापन चढाएको छ। ज्ञापनमा स्पष्ट रूपमा परियोजना रद्द गर्नुपर्ने माग गरिएको छ। ज्ञापन सुम्पिएपछि पत्रकारहरूसित कुराकानी गर्दै सेभ सिक्किमका प्रतिनिधि प्रभुराम खड्का अनि यापछिङला भुटियाको नेतृत्वमा रहेका दलले सरकारलाई एक हप्ताको अन्तिमेत्थ्यम दिएर उक्त परियोजनाको सुरुङ खन्ने काम बन्द नगरेको खण्डमा घरलौरी युवाहरू निस्किएर क्रान्ति गर्ने घोषणा गरेका छन्।
पत्रकारहरूसित कुराकानी गर्दै संगठनका सदस्य खड्काले भने,पश्चिम सिक्किमको याङथाङ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रमा पर्ने याङ्ते ग्राम पञ्चायत एकाईको लगभग 11 वटा गाउँ अहिले सिगा जल विद्युत परियोजनाको कारण त्रासदीमा बॉंच्दैछ, उक्त क्षेत्र पहिलेबाटै सिम्सार भएको हुनाले एक परिवारलाई माटोमा दबाइसकेको छ भने अहिले जल विद्युत परियोजनाको सुरुङ खनेर मरौमाथि कात्रो थप्ने काम हुँदैछ। तिनले भने यो परियोजना झट्ट रद्द नगरिएको खण्डमा हामी क्रान्तिकारी रूप धारण गरेर आन्दोलनलाई तिब्र पारेर कुनै हदसम्म जानेछौ, किनभने हाम्रो भविष्य हाम्रो माटो हो माटोको रक्षा गर्न सबै सिक्किमे अघि आउनुपर्छ । तिनले एक हप्ताको अन्तिमेत्थ्यम दिँदै भने,हामी भोलिसम्म मुख्यमन्त्री लगायत सबै पुर्याउनु पर्ने ठूला बडाकोमा यो ज्ञापन पुर्याउऩे छौ अनि त्यसको ठीक एक हप्ता भित्रमा पनि सुरुङ खन्ने काम रोकिएन भने हामी घरलौरी एक दुइजना मान्छे निस्केर आन्दोलनलाई चरम पार्ने छौं।
अहिलेसम्म उक्त क्षेत्रमा मानिसहरूको विरोधको विपरीत कम्पनीले सुरुङ खन्ने काम यथावत राखेको छ। केही दिन अघि विरोधले गर्दा काम बन्द गरेको भए पनि अहिले पुलिस बल तैनाथ गरेर हुन्छ कि लुकीछिपी राति-राति पनि सुरुङ बनाउने कार्य भइरहेको सेभ सिक्किमका अर्का सदस्य यापछुङलाले बताए। तिनले भने, धार्मिक् आस्थाको कारण यो नदी अतिनै पवित्र रहेको छ जसको पुजा गरिन्छ अनि यसै नदीमा 1997 मा करोडौं रूपियॉं खर्च गरेर निर्माण लगभग पुरा गर्न आँटेको राथोङछु परियोजना वर्तमान सरकाले रद्द गरेको हो तर अहिले त्यसै नदीमा परियोजना लगाउएर धार्मिक आस्थामा पनि चोट पुर्याएको छ। यसलाई तुरन्तै बन्द गरिनुपर्छ, तिनले भने। जनताको भावनालाई जिल्ला प्रशासन अनि जन प्रतिनिधि क्षेत्र विधायकले समेत अवहेलना गरेको बताउँदै सेभ सिक्किमका प्रितनिधिहरूले बाध्य भएर राज्यपालसित गुहार लगाउन परेको अवगत गराए।
यापछुङलाले भने, धार्मिक आस्था बाहेक जुन परियोजना निर्माण भइरहेको छ त्यस ठॉंउको ठीक मास्तिर लगभग एक किलोमिटरको दुरीमा चार पॉंच पुट फराकिलो जमीन फाटेको छ। त्यो जमिन लगभग तीन-चार किलोमिटर तेस्रो फाटेर गएको छ,त्यसैको मुनि अहिले सुरुङ खन्ने काम हुँदैछ जसले वरिपरिका गाउँलाई समाप्त गर्ने निश्चित छ। यसै विषयमा जिल्लापाल एस के प्रधान अनि विधायक पीएल सुब्बालाई छुट्टा छुट्टै भेटमा उक्त इलाकाको निरिक्षण गर्ने आग्रह गरिएको भए पनि जनताको माग सुनिएन्। जिल्लापालले वाहन पुग्ने सड़क सम्म पुगेर आफ्नो औपचारिकता पुरा गरे भने विधायकले आफू त्यहॉं नजाने तथा जनताको अनुरोध टार्दै गैरजिम्मेवार प्रतिनिधिको रूपमा काम गरेका छन् त्यसमा हामीलाई दुःख लागेको छ,तिनले भने। जनताको भावनालाई जिल्ला प्रशासन र जन प्रतिनिधिले नै लत्याएका छन् भने पुलिस प्रशासनले पनि जनताको मागलाई अदेखा गर्दै सरकारी कर्मचारी भएर पनि विद्युत कम्पनीको वाहनमा चडेर जनताको माग दबाउने कार्य गरिरहेका छन्, तिनले भने।
तिनले तिकजुक थानाका प्रभारी कर्मा भोटियाले कम्पनीको वाहनमा चडेर आएर जनतालाई परियोजनास्थलमा पुग्न समेत रोकेको आरोप लगाए। तिनले भने, उक्त क्षेत्रमा एउटा आँपको रूखमा सिंहदेवीको पुजा गरिएको थियो जहॉं हाम्रो आस्था रहेको थियो तर त्यसलाई पनि भताभुङपारेको थाहा पाएर हामी हेर्न बुझ्न गएका थियौ तर थाना प्रभारी भोटियाले कम्पनीको वाहनमा चडेर आएर हामीलाई पुजा स्थल सम्म जान दिएन्, तिनी सरकारी कर्मचारी हुन कि कम्पनीको मान्छे हामीले बुझ्न सकेनौं, यदि सरकारी मान्छे हुन भने किन पुलिसको वाहनमा नचड़ेर कम्पनीको वाहनमा चड़े तिनले प्रश्न तेर्साए। अर्कोतिर उक्त सुरुङको ठीक मास्तिर स्थानीय गाउँले किसानहरूको जिउन साधन धानवारी रहेको छ अऩि उक्त सुरूङ बनिएको खण्डमा खेतमा पानी सुकेर जनता भोकै मर्ने अवस्थामा पुग्ने भएकोले पनि यो परियोजना घातक रहेको तिनले ठोकुवा गरे।
सेभ सिक्किमले बुझाएको ज्ञापनमा गाउँलेहरूले परियोजनाको विरोधमा हस्ताक्षऱ गरेका छन् । याङ्ते ग्राम पञ्चायत एकाई लगायत पश्चिम सिक्किमका सबै जनताको यसमा विरोध रहेको दावी गर्दै अब पुरै सिक्किम यसको विरोधमा उठ्नु पर्ने आह्वान गरिएको छ। यो आन्दोलन माटोको आन्दोलन हो अब हामीले पहिले आफ्नो माटो जोगाउनु पर्छ त्यसपछि राजनीति गर्दा हुन्छ अनि यो राजनीति देखि माथि उठेर सिक्किम बचाउने अभियान रहेको बताउँदै यसमा कोही नेता नरहेको तर सबै सदस्य र सबै नेता बनेर सिक्किमको निम्ति आन्दोलित बनेर क्रान्तिको निम्ति अघि आउने सदस्य खड्काले आह्वान गरेका छऩ्। अर्कोतिर राष्ट्रिय अल्पसंख्यक आयोगकी सदस्या स्पालजस एङ्गमोले राथोङ छु नदी अतिनै पवित्र अनि धार्मिक आस्थाको केन्द्र रहेको बताउँदै यहॉं पटक्कै जल विद्युत परियोजना नलगाउने सुझाउ दिइसकेका छन्। सिक्किम भ्रमणमा रहेकी एङ्गमोले आफ्नो सुझाउमा सिक्किम सिस्मिक जोन पॉंचमा पर्ने हुनाले अब ठुला परियोजना गर्नै नहुने चेताउनी पनि दिइसकेका छन्।
सिक्किममा जलविद्युत परियोजनाको विरोधमा विगतका आन्दोलनहरू
प्रविण खालिंग, कालिमन्युज, गान्तोक,18 ऩोभेम्बर। लेप्चा समुदायको उद्गम स्थल जङ्गुमा प्रास्तावित पनाङ जल विद्युत परियोजनाको विरोधमा एफेक्टेड सिटिजन अफ् टिस्टा (एक्ट)-ले गरेको आन्दोलनले विश्वको ध्यान आकर्षित गरेको थियो। 20 जुन 2007 को दिन टिस्टा नदीलाई साह्रै माया गर्ने कञ्चनजघाको काखमा बस्ने एक्टका सदस्यहरूले ऐतिहासिक गान्धीवादी आन्दोलनको रूपमा 915 दिन सम्म भोकहड्ताल गरेर सरकारको जल विद्युत परियोजना नीतिको विरोध गरेका थिए। एक्टको नेतृत्वमा रहेको आन्दोलनलाई दार्जीलिङ र कालेबुङका लेप्चा समुदायले पनि सर्मथन जनाउँदै आफ्नो उद्गमस्थल जङ्गुमा पुगेर पुजा गर्न जंङ्गु मार्च शुरु गरेका थिए तर प्रशासनद्वारा उनीहरूलाई जङ्गु प्रवेशमा निशेष गर्दै उनीहरूलाई फर्काउने कार्य भएको थियो।
सिक्किम सरकारको जल विद्युत परियोजनाको विरोधमा उठेको यो ऐतिहासिक विरोधको स्वरलाई समर्थन गर्दै टिस्ता बचाउन अन्तरराष्ट्रिय स्तरमा सिडनी तथा अन्य अन्तरराष्ट्रिय क्षेत्रमा पनि विरोध गरिएको थियो। भारतकै पर्यावरणप्रेमी मेघा पाटकरदेखि लिएर राष्ट्रिय स्तरका विभिन्न राजनैतिक दल तथा संघ संस्थाको प्रतिनिधिहरूले आफ्नो समर्थन दिएको भए पनि 2009 को 27 सेप्टेम्बरमा यो आन्दोलनले विराम लियो अथवा 915 दिनदेखि पर्यावरण विरोधी नीतिको विरोध गर्दै पनाङ परियोजनाको विरोधमा आन्दोलनरत आन्दोलनकारीहरूले सरकार सामु घुँडा टेक्न बाध्य हुँदै अनशन समाप्त गरेको थियो। यो आन्दोलनमा सबै भन्दा धेरै दावा अनि तेञ्जिङ लेप्चाले अनशन बसेका थिए ।
आन्दोलनकै क्रममा एक्टका लगभग 44 जना कार्यकर्ताहरूलाई पनाङ जल विद्युत परियोजनास्थलमा तोडफोड गरेको आरोपमा जेल पठाउने तथा उनीहरूमाथि मुद्दा हाल्ने कार्य भएको थियो। अब फेरि सिक्किममा आर्को चरणको आन्दोलन शुरु हुने छॉंट देखिएको छ। यस्तो अवस्थामा एक्टको भूमिका कस्तो हुनेछ त्यसबारे अहिले केही भन्न सकिएको छैन्। पर्यावरणमाथि जल विद्युत परियोजनाको प्रतिकूल असरहरूको विषयमा एक्ट द्वारा विभिन्न सेमिनार तिर व्याख्यानहरू पेश गरिएको सुनिए पनि अहिले संगठन निष्क्रिय प्रायः देखिएको अवस्थाम सेफ सिक्किमले झकझकाउन सक्ने देखिएको छ। अब फेरि पुरानो घाउ बल्झिन सक्ने प्रबल सम्भावना रहेको छ।

एक्टको ठूलो आन्दोलन लगायत दराप पश्चिम सिक्किममा पनि रंगीत एफेक्टेप फेम्लीज नामक संस्था गठन गरेर जल विद्युत परियोजनाको प्रतिवाद गरिएको थियो। उक्त संस्थाले पछि कति कार्य गरे त्यसको कुनै पुष्टि भने भएको छैन्। यसका साथै सिक्किम भुटिया लेप्चा एपेक्स कमेटी (सिब्ल्याक)-ले राष्ट्रिय स्तरमा वौद्धि आन्दोलन गर्दै सिक्किमको नदीहरूको धार्मिक आस्थाको आधारहरू बताएर केन्द्र सरकारलाई सहमत गर्दै केही जल विद्युत परियोजनाहरूमाथि कडा अपत्ति जनाएपछि स्थगित गरिएको छ। यसैगरि सिक्किमीज एसोसिएशन फर इनभायरोमेन्ट (सेफ)-ले पनि विभिन्न तहमा कार्य गरेका थिए। यद्यपी त्यसबेलाका आन्दोलनलाई जङ्गुमा केन्द्रित गरिने तथा विशेष समुदायको आवाज ठानिएको कारण व्यापकता र फैलावटमा पनि न्यूनता देखिएको थियो। अब भने गत 25 अक्टोबरको दिन गठन भएको सेभ सिक्किमले सरकारलाई आफ्नो माग पुरा गर्न बाध्य गराउने हो की एक्ट र अन्य संस्थाहरू जस्तै गलेर लखतरान भएर संघर्ष विराम गर्न पर्ने हो त्यो भविष्यले बताउऩे छ।
भुइँचालोले भत्किएको धार्मिक संस्थानहरूको निम्ति समिति गठन
प्रविण खालिंग, कालिमन्युज, गान्तोक,18 ऩोभेम्बर। राज्य सरकारद्वारा धार्मिक संस्थानहरूलाई 18 सेप्टेम्बरको भुइँचालोले पुर्याएको क्षयक्षतिबारे जानकारी संकल्न गर्न र क्षतिको आकलन गर्ने मुख्य सचिवको नेतृत्वमा एउटा समिति गठन गरेको छ। राज्यको सूचना तथा जनसम्पर्क विभागले दिएको जानकारी अनुसार समितिमा 11 जना सदस्य रहनेछन् भने यसमा तकनीकिय विशेषज्ञहरूको परामर्श र सहयोग लिएर एउटा प्रतिवेदन तैयार गरिनेछ। त्यसैको आधारमा सरकारले ती धार्मिक स्थलहरूको मरम्मत र पुनःनिर्माण कार्य गर्ने छ। प्राप्त जानकारी अनुसा बौद्ध गुम्पाहरूको पूर्व वनावट र आकार हुबहु राखिनेछ। यसको निम्ति विशेषज्ञहरूबाट तकनिकीय सहोयग लिइनेछ। समितिमा सांस्कृतिक मामिला तथा धरोहर विभागका सचिव लगायत अनुभावी विशेषज्ञहरू पनि सदस्य रहनेछन्।
Plea to stall work on power projects
BIJOY GURUNG, TT, Gangtok, Nov. 18: A section of villagers from West Sikkim today pleaded to the governor to stop work on the two power projects on the Rathong Chu till a review was completed.
Three mega projects had been proposed on the Rathong Chu, considered sacred by the Buddhists.
While the 96 MW Lethang project has already been rejected by the National Board for Wildlife under the Union ministry for environment and forest, the 99 MW Ting Ting project has received environmental clearance and work on the 97 MW Tashiding power project started six months ago.
Today residents of Tashiding, Yangthang and the adjoining areas under the banner of Save Sikkim told governor B.P. Singh that “a wide crack has appeared on the land surface” above the under-construction tunnel at the Tashiding project in Amblok village after the September 18 quake.
“The crack, some 5km above the tunnel, was noticed after the earthquake and it is wide and deep enough to swallow a person or cattle. People of 11 villages under Yangtey gram panchayat, over which the tunnel passes, fear an impending disaster,” said Save Sikkim member Prabhu Ram Kharka.
“The projects are being reviewed by both the state and the Centre and we demand that the tunnel construction be stopped till the assessment is over,” he said.
The members have said if the work is not stopped in a week, they will organise protests. “We have support from most parts of West Sikkim and one youth from every house in Yangtey will join the protest,” said Kharka.
Tie-up call for hills, UK garden - Cross-country bond beckons tea & tourism
AVIJIT SINHA, TT, Siliguri, Nov. 18: A delegation of industrialists from north Bengal has proposed to twin Darjeeling hills with England’s only tea garden, Tregothnan, for free flow of tourists and exchange of tea.
The proposal came from the North Bengal zonal council of the Confederation of Indian Industry, when a team visited the Tregothnan estate in September. The estate in Cornwall in the south-west of England comprises tea plantation, dense woods and several tourist attractions.
“It was nice to visit the estate that is spread over two counties of Cornwall and Kent. Tea is cultivated on around 100 acres on the estate. We proposed that Tregothnan can be twinned with Darjeeling hills, especially with focus on Darjeeling tea. There can be exchange of information, different species of tea and other flora between the two places,” said Ramgopal Jajodia, the chairperson of the zonal council of the CII.
Jonathon Jones, a director of the Tregothnan estate, told the delegation that he would take a positive look at the proposal.
“He (Jones) seemed to be enthusiastic about the idea and said joint efforts need to be made to forge the tie-up by including the stakeholders of the Darjeeling tea industry and the governments of India and the UK,” said Jajodia.
The delegates had recounted during their interaction with the Tregothnan officials that the bond between India and England with regard to tea go back to when the British had set up gardens in north Bengal and other parts of the country centuries back.
The CII feels the tie-up between the hills and the Tregothnan estate that came up in 1335 can give global exposure to Indian tea.
“Our intention is to augment the international market of Indian tea. If we can forge a relationship with the UK-based estate, it will go a long way in promoting Darjeeling as a tourist destination and the producer of best brew. This is because a lot of people from different parts of the UK and other countries visit Tregothnan and they can be told about Darjeeling. Similarly, Tregothnan can also be promoted among the tourists coming to Darjeeling,” said Jajodia.
The CII officials said they were eagerly looking forward to a reply from Tregothnan official Jones on the proposal when he attended the three-day Indian Tea Forum here next month.
The event will be organised by the CII from December 17 to 19.
“Jones has confirmed his participation at the event and will make a presentation on December 18. We can hear from him what exactly they want. The matter can be discussed with the tea stakeholders and government officials as well at the forum,” said Laxmi Limbu Kaushal, the administrative head of the CII zonal council and one of the delegates to the UK.
The forum is being organised to promote the beverage and tourism internationally, and will see experts discuss various issues related to the tea industry.
Kaushal said Tregothnan resembled Darjeeling in terms of flora.
“Like Darjeeling, the estate has tea plants, rhododendrons and shrubs. We saw in Tregothnan tea plants brought from Sikkim and Darjeeling. One of the Sikkim plants was 100 years old,” she said.
