Continuous raids is being conducted by the police for fire and arson caused in the recent violence in hills after the Shibsu firing. GJM supporters had attacked several police stations including Lodhoma Thana.
In Dooars five have been arrested for Madarihat violence. All five and Wilson Champramari MLA are remanded for 14 days' jail custody. In a stray incident a mechanic and his helper were man handled by GJM picketers while returning with the machine parts towards Malbazar and snatched mobile phone and a gold chain of the mechanic.
Yesterday tourists availed 42 buses to return from Gangtok to Sikkim.
KalimNews, Kalimpong, 12 February: Nita Khawas, 23 of Sittong breathed her last at about 1.45 PM in a nursing home of Siliguri. Khawas was a GLP volunteer and was shot by Bengal Police on 8th February at Shibsu. She was struggling for life since five days and shifted from SD Hospital. Her dead body was handed over to her family after post mortem and taken to Sukuna party Office and will be taken to her native place Middle Turuk of Sittong tomorrow. Nita daughter of Rambahadur Khawas had left 2 brothers and three sisters.

However, GJMM activists would sit in a fast-unto-death in the Dooars tomorrow to press for a CBI probe into the 10 February Sipchu firing. Mr Madan is understood to have assured the GJMM leadership that he would convey the grievances and the demands of the agitators to the Union home minister. The meeting was held at Kumani today where the GJMM president, Mr Bimal Gurung, has been camping since the GJMM padayatra began in the second week of January.
The development came as chief minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said only talks can resolve the impasse in the Hills. Speaking at a function in Kolkata, he said political discussion is essential to restore peace in the Hills. But it is only possible if violence comes to an end, he said.
State urban development minister and senior CPI-M leader Mr Asok Bhattacharya said in Siliguri today that his party had written a letter to the chief election commissioner in New Delhi, informing him that the situation in the Darjeeling Hills was not conducive to holding elections.
At Writers’, home secretary Mr GD Gautama said the state government will not succumb to any pressure in dealing with violent mode of agitation, a day after Mr Bimal Gurung threatened to ‘set the Hills on fire’ if any attempt is made to arrest him.
The Sipchu firing toll has risen to three with GJMM woman activist Nita Khwas, a resident of Turak, in Kurseong sub-division, having succumbed to her injuries at a private health facility in Siliguri this morning.

Madan asked them not to jeopardize the tripartite talks, but GJM leaders ruled out the Council, harping on the formation of Gorkhaland with inclusion of Dooars and Terai.
As the meeting was being held, Adivasi Vikash Parishad spokesman John Barla said: "We shall never allow Dooars and Terai to be part of Gorkhaland. Nor will we allow GJM to hold rallies here."
Amid the Centre's efforts to broker peace, state home secretary G D Gautama said: "The state government will not succumb to pressure in dealing with the violent mode of agitation." His statement came after Gurung, against whom an FIR has been lodged, said any attempt to arrest him "will put the Hills on fire".
GJM president Bimal Gurung threatened to intensify the stir if any attempt was made to arrest him, but chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee made a last-ditch attempt to buy peace. Addressing a public function on Saturday, the CM said: "The problem in Darjeeling can be sorted out through peaceful political talks and we are ready for that... We cannot compromise with violence." The CM was speaking at the annual combined parade of West Bengal and Kolkata Police Force here.
Meanwhile, GJM's indefinite strike call since February 9 demanding a CBI inquiry into the Sibchu police firing on February 8, which left two of its supporters dead, seemed to have had no effect in the plains. In the Hills, the situation was tense as the 23-year-old Nita, a resident of Sitong II block under Mongpu Latpanchar constituency, died around 2.30pm on Saturday. The police firing victim and GLP member was brought to the Siliguri hospital from Darjeeling on Tuesday. She is the third police firing casualty. Three others are admitted in hospitals.
Ahead of Madan's visit, the GJM put off its elaborate agitation programme, which included gheraoing police stations, in the Hills. GJM members restricted themselves to squatting on the road at Chowk Bazaar. The fourth day of the bandh was generally peaceful even as police continued extensive raids since Friday night, and arrested GJM members Puran Loreng, Sanjay Tamang and Bikas Rai from Bojonbari. The arrests were in connection with the burning of the Bijonbari block office on Tuesday. The three were produced in court and given 14 days' judicial custody.
Meanwhile, Lakshman Prasad, owner of a garage, was brought back to Malbazar on Saturday in custody of the police. On Thursday, he had gone to Kumani to repair a truck, but was beaten up by GJM supporters.

PTI, Delhi: BJP will support the majority opinion in the hills and this has been the party's consistent stand, leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said today.
"BJP will not be against the majority opinion. Whatever is the wish of the majority of people in the hills, we will go by that," Swaraj told reporters after a public meeting here, in the West Midnapore district.
Swaraj said her comments were in conformity with the BJP poll manifesto during Lok Sabha elections, which had clearly spelt out the party's stance on the issue, as BJP believed in democratic norms.
BJP MP Jaswant Singh, who represents Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat, had been elected as an independent candidate supported by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) during the 2009 elections and was later reinstated in the saffron party.
Speaking about price rise and corruption, Swaraj blamed both the CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress for "supporting the successive UPA governments in 2004 and 2009 respectively."
"Both the Marxists and Trinamool are to be blamed for allowing this UPA government to lead the country to ruin in two phases of its rule," she said at the rally while lampooning Trinamool "for not raising its voice against black money and scams rocking the nation now".
Turning to the law and order situation in West Bengal, Swaraj said both Marxists and Trinamool had aided miscreants to let loose reign of terror in different parts of state including 'jangalmahal' (jungle belt of three south Bengal districts dominated by Maoists).
"Both the CPI(M) and Trinamool aided Maoists and allowed their growth and now the situation has got to such a violent phase," Swaraj rued.

उता तराईमा सिब्सुकाण्ड अनि विमल गुरूङको कुमानी फरेष्ट बासलाई लिएर राष्ट्रियस्तरमा नै गलत प्रचार भइरहेको छ। पुलिस प्रशासनको पनि बङ्गाल सरकार चलाउने माकपासित नै सॉंठगॉंठ रहेको सबैले अऩुमान गरिरहेको छ। यस्तो अवस्थामा कुनै पनि जॉंचको सही तथ्य पारदर्शी र सहीरूपले आउनसक्ने कुरामाथि पनि शंका गरिनुपर्ने स्थिति बनेको देखापरेको छ। सबैको भनाइ अऩुसार अहिले दलीय एकताको खॉंचो छ अनि सबैले सिब्सुकाण्डलाई केन्द्र गर्दै गोर्खाल्याण्डको निम्ति कुनै पनि संयुक्त पहल गर्न अनिवार्य छ। यसपल्ट पनि प्रशासन लगाएर कुनै पनि परिस्थितिमा आन्दोलनलाई दबाउन बङ्गाल सफल बने अनि कुनै पनि नचाहेको व्यवस्था कोचार्ने काम भए यसको दोष के दलहरूको मौनतालाई पनि जॉंदैन र?
आन्दोलनलाई राष्ट्रविरोधी बनाउने चलखेल?
मनोज वोगटी, कालिमन्युज। सिब्सुकाण्डमाथि सहीरूपले कानूनी जॉंच हुनुपर्ने सम्बन्धमा पहाड़का सङ्गसङ्घठनहरूद्वारा केन्द्र सरकारमा बारम्बार पत्रचार गर्ने कार्य भइरहेको छ।मोर्चा सर्थकहरूमाथि कुनै सूचनाबिना नै गोली चलाउनु, त्यो पनि सोझै निधारमा, यही पुलिस प्रशासनको दोष मानिएको छ। सतर्क रहने कुनै सूचना नगरी, कुनै चेतावनी नदिइ सोझै गोली चलाउनु अनि दुई गोर्खाको हत्या गर्नुले पुलिस प्रशासन आफ्नो कानूनी सीमाबाट बाहिर गएको स्पष्ट भएको मोर्चाले मात्र बताइरहेको छैन पहाड़का सम्पूर्ण दलहरू अनि सङ्घसङ्गठनहरूले पनि बताइरहेको छ। यसको सीबीआई र सीआईडी जॉंच हुने त भनिएको छ तर यसको परिणति सही निस्कन्छ भन्नेकुरामा पहाड़वासीले विश्वास गरिहाल्न भने सक्दैन।
पहाड़मा हत्याकाण्डमाथि हुने सीबीआई र सीआईडीको जॉंचले अहिलेसम्म कुनै पनि मुद्दालाई न्याय दिएको छैन। एकातिर लीग नेता मदन तामङ हत्याकाण्डमाथि सीबीआई जॉंच भइरहेको छ, तर यत्रोदिनसम्म कुनै परिणाम अघि आइरहेको छैन। सोधपुछ जारी छ अनि विधानसभा चुनाउ अघि सीबीआईले पनि कुनै सही तथ्य निकाल्छ भन्ने कुरा पनि द्विविधामा छ। मोर्चाको गणतान्त्रिक पद्धतिमा भइरहेको पैदलयात्रालाई कुनै विशेष कारण विना नै रोक्नु, एक नेताको पैदल यात्रा रोक्न शैन्य बल खनाउनु र मोर्चालाई अगणतान्त्रिक बन्न उस्काउनुभित्र राजनैतिक चलखेल नै लुकेको स्पष्ट छ।
यो चलखेल यहॉं आएर स्पष्ट भयो जब सिब्सु काण्डपछि माकपाका नेताहरूले घटनाको दोष मोर्चालाई दिँदै मोर्चासित माओवादीहरूको सॉंठगॉंठ रहेको हल्ला गर्यो। गोर्खाल्याण्ड विरोधी माकपाका नेताहरूले जतिसक्दो मोर्चालाई अगणतान्त्रिक बन्न उस्काइरहेको भएपनि मोर्चाले पूर्ण धर्यता सॉंधेको छ। गोर्खाहरूमाथि गोली ठोकिएको छ तरै पनि आन्तरिकरूपमा आक्रोश राखेर पनि विरोधीहरूको राजनैतिक चालबाजीलाई सफल बन्न नदिन मोर्चाले पूर्ण धर्यता अप्नाएको छ। कुमानीमा विमल गुरूङले जङ्गल दखल गरेको, माओवादीहरूसित प्रशिक्षण लिइरहेको मात्र होइन मोर्चाले उत्तरबङ्गाललाई लिएर ग्रेटर नेपालको निम्ति आन्दोलन गरिरहेको अफवाह बङ्गाल सरकारका चौकीलोलुप नेताहरूले चलाइरहेको छ।
एकातिर मोर्चा नेताहरूलाई पक्राउ गर्ने कुरा गरिरहेको छ भने अर्कोतिर सकेको जति सुरक्षाबललाई पहाड़ हुलिरहेको छ। आइजी रणबीर कुमारले मोर्चाको माओवादीसितको सॉंठगॉंठलाई ठाड़ो अस्वीकार गरिदिएको छ भने नेताहरूले भने आफ्नो ढिपी जारी राखेको छ। माकपाले आमरा बङ्गाली, जनजागरण मञ्च, राष्ट्रिय शिवसेना, बङ्गला भाषा बचाओ समितिहरूलाई मोर्चा विरूद्ध तैनाथ गरेको छ अनि उनीहरूले मोर्चालाई राष्ट्रविरोधी बनाउनको निम्ति विभिन्न कार्यकर्महरू पनि गरिरहेको छ। सिब्सु घटनाको दोष सम्पूर्णरूपले मोर्चालाई खन्याएर माकपा सरकारले आफ्नो कार्यअसक्षमतालाई यता अझ स्पष्ट पारेको छ, किन भने कुनै छानबिन विना नै मोर्चालाई आरोप लगाएर घटनाको राजनैतिक फाइदा लिने कोशिष गरिरहेको छ।
माकपाको यो चलखेलको विरुद्धमा तृणमूल, कंग्रेस र अन्य दलहरूले आवाज बारम्बार उठाइरहेकै छ। सिब्सु काण्डपछि आक्रोशित मानिसहरूले सरकारी सम्पति नष्ट गरेको सम्बन्धमा पनि मोर्चालाई नै दोष दिइएको छ भने मोर्चाका शीर्ष नेताहरूको विरूद्धमा प्राथमिकी पनि दर्ता भइसकेको छ। पुलिस प्रशासनले दोषीहरूलाई कार्वाही हुने बताउँदै प्राथमिकीमा नाम भएकाहरूलाई पक्राउ गर्न सक्ने बताइरहेको छ। पहाड़मा यसैकारण शैन्यबललाई तैनाथ गरिएको छ भने सुरक्षा बलले गाउँगाउँमा छापा मारिरहेको छ। यसप्रकारको पुलिसी कार्यले मानिसहरू त्रस्त छन्। यता मोर्चालाई चीनसित पनि जोड़िने कार्य भइरहेको छ।
यी सबैभित्र मोर्चालाई राष्ट्रविरोधी बनाएर विधानसभामा फाइदा लिने नियत लुकेको स्पष्ट छ। यता यतिविघ्न भइसक्दा पनि पहाड़का अन्य दलहरू दुलो पसेका छन्। जब कि यतिबेला नै हो दलीय एकताको बेला। क्रामाकपा बाहेक कुनै पनि दलले बङ्गाल सरकारको पुलिसले गोर्खाहरूलाई गोलीठोकेको सम्बन्धमा समेत कुनै टिप्पणी गरेको छैन। उता सिक्किम सरकारको पक्षबाट भने यस घटनाको कठोररुपले भर्त्सना जनाइएको छ। यति बेला मोर्चालाई अगणतान्त्रिक बनाउने अनि राष्ट्रविरोधी बनाउने षड़यन्त्रबाट मोर्चालाई बँचाउन जुरूरी देखिएको छ। किन भने मुद्दा राष्ट्रविरोधी होइन। यहीबेला हो मुद्दाको आधारबारे सबैलाई बलियोरूपले बताउने बेला। अब हेर्नुछ, पहाड़का दलीय चलखेल मुद्दा बचाउको निम्ति कस्तो देखिने हो।

TT, KOLKATA: With tensions brewing in the Darjeeling hills and the Dooars in the plains of north Bengal, West Bengal Left Front chairman Biman Bose alleged here on Friday that the Trinamool Congress maintains links with those responsible for violence in the hills.
“The GJM [Gorkha Janmukti Morcha] is playing with fire. Such a force must be receiving encouragement from both national and international quarters, otherwise it would not have been so bold,” Mr. Bose said.
He compared the relations between the Trinamool and GJM with the alleged ties between the State's main Opposition party and the Maoists in the Jangalmahal region.
Referring to the current turbulence in Darjeeling district after the February 8 violence, the leader said whereas attempts at creating conflict in the hills were seen in the past, this time they had descended to the plains in the Dooars.
‘Position shifted'
Mr. Bose pointed out that the GJM had shifted its position from the time discussions were held about holding elections for the interim council after the Assembly polls.
On the Left Front rally to be held in the city on February 13, Mr. Bose said the number of persons attending it may surpass the numbers at all others.
Apologising for the inconvenience it may cause, he suggested that people travelling that day leave early for the airport and railway stations as traffic snarls are likely.
However, Mr. Bose assured that arrangements will be made so that emergency vehicles, such as ambulances, will be allowed to pass.
He also alleged that the Trinamool, at times on its own, at times with the Maoists and at others with the Congress, was responsible for the violence, terror and lawlessness currently being witnessed in the State.
The issue will feature prominently in the rally, he said.

PTI, Delhi: BJP will support the majority opinion in the hills and this has been the party's consistent stand, leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said today.
"BJP will not be against the majority opinion. Whatever is the wish of the majority of people in the hills, we will go by that," Swaraj told reporters after a public meeting here, in the West Midnapore district.
Swaraj said her comments were in conformity with the BJP poll manifesto during Lok Sabha elections, which had clearly spelt out the party's stance on the issue, as BJP believed in democratic norms.
BJP MP Jaswant Singh, who represents Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat, had been elected as an independent candidate supported by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) during the 2009 elections and was later reinstated in the saffron party.
Speaking about price rise and corruption, Swaraj blamed both the CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress for "supporting the successive UPA governments in 2004 and 2009 respectively."
"Both the Marxists and Trinamool are to be blamed for allowing this UPA government to lead the country to ruin in two phases of its rule," she said at the rally while lampooning Trinamool "for not raising its voice against black money and scams rocking the nation now".
Turning to the law and order situation in West Bengal, Swaraj said both Marxists and Trinamool had aided miscreants to let loose reign of terror in different parts of state including 'jangalmahal' (jungle belt of three south Bengal districts dominated by Maoists).
"Both the CPI(M) and Trinamool aided Maoists and allowed their growth and now the situation has got to such a violent phase," Swaraj rued.

तिनले दिल्लीबाट कुनै पनि सन्देश लिएर नआएको बताए पनि सिब्सुकाण्ड अनि यसले जन्माएको परिस्थितिमाथि केन्द्र चिन्तित रहेको पनि मोर्चालाई जनाए। तिनले मोर्चासित सिब्सुकाण्डमाथि जमीनी यथार्थबारे पनि जायजा लिए। तिनले केन्द्र पहाड़को समाधानको निम्ति पनि चिन्तित रहेको मोर्चा प्रतिनिधिहरूलाई अवगत गराउँदै यसको समाधान कसरी हुनसक्छ भन्ने जिज्ञासा पनि तिनले राखे। विजय मदनले मोर्चालाई राखेको प्रश्नको जवाबबारे मोर्चा प्रवक्ता डा.हर्कबहादुर छेत्रीले पत्रकारहरूलाई भने, हामीले मध्यस्थकर्ता विजय मदनलाई प्राधिकरण गठन गर्न ढिलो भएको अनि प्राधिकरण जनाकॉंक्षा अनुसार सानो भएकोले केन्द्रिय कमिटीले यसमुद्दालाई खारेज गरिदिएको स्पष्ट पारिदिएको जनाएदिएका छौं। हामीले सिब्सुकाण्डबारे पनि तिनलाई जनाएका छौं, यहॉंको सॉंचो कुरा गृहमन्त्रीसित राखिदिने अपील पनि गरेका छौं।
मोर्चा उपाध्यक्ष कल्याण देवानसित जान्न चहॉंदा तिनले विजय मदनलाई मोर्चाले सिब्सुकाण्डमाथि सीबीआई जॉंच हुनुपर्ने, डुवर्समा मोर्चा अध्यक्षलाई पदयात्रा गर्न दिइनपर्ने अनि मोर्चाले प्राधिकरण खारेज गरेकोले अब गोर्खाल्याण्डको मागमा अडिग रहेको जनाइएको बताए। तिनले भने, जोभयो, भइसक्यो अब गोर्खाल्याण्डमाथि नै केन्द्रले वार्ता बोलाउनुपर्ने कुरा मदनलाई जनाएका छौं। यता विजय मदनले यससम्बन्धमा पत्रकारहरूलाई अहिले परिस्थिति विग्रिएकोले वार्ता अहिलेको निम्ति सम्भव नरहेको बताएका छन्।
मोर्चा महासचिव रोशन गिरीले पत्रकारहरूलाई जनाए अनुसार मध्यस्थकारीलाई मोर्चाको गणतान्त्रिक आन्दोलन बिथोल्न बङ्गाल सरकारले बन्दुकको सहारा लिइरहेको अनि यो पुलिसी दमनमाथि केन्द्रको हस्तक्षेप हुनुपर्ने सम्बन्धमा पनि अवगत गराइएको छ।
तिनले भने, बङ्गालले मोर्चाको आन्दोलन बिथोल्न अनेकौं जुक्तिहरू चलाइरहेको छ, यी सबै विषयमा विजय मदनलाई अवगत गराइएको छ।तिनलाई यहॉंको कुरा दिल्ली पुर्याइदिने अनुरोध गरिएको छ। तिनले आज मोर्चाको कार्यक्रममा केही फेरबदल ल्याइएको जनाउँदै भने, पहाड़मा अनिश्चितकालीन बन्द जारी रहनेछ तर तराई र डुवर्समा भने केहीदिनको निम्ति बन्द स्थगित गरिएको छ। यसको साटो डुवर्सको कुनै एक ठाउँमा मोर्चाको पॉंच सदस्यीय कार्यकर्ताहरूले आमरण अनशन शुरू गर्नेछ। तिनले अनशन कहॉं अनि को को बस्नेबारे अहिले नै तय नभएको जनाए।
