GJM announced 48 hrs bundh
KalimNews: In view of the next talks Bimal Gurung the President of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha announced different programmes to be observed in its organisational meeting held at Sukuna, 15 km from Siliguri which is regarded as gateway to Darjeeling. One of the programmes include the 48 hrs. bundh from 15th May to 16th May in proposed Gorkhaland area. Apart from this, the party has also decided to keep the govt. offices shut down from Monday i.e. 10th May. All Govt vehicles except DM's and SP's will not be allowed to ply on the road. However, the educational institutions shall remain open during the 48 hrs. bundh, party sources added.
The party has also announced to observe hunger strike in Terai and Dooars to demand the inclusion of Terai and Dooars region in the proposed interim set-up. 14 members of youth and womens' wing of GJM will sit for the relay hunger strike in each area.
Gurung added that B.L.Meena, Administrator of DGHC should be present at DGHC headquarter at Lal kothi within a month otherwise Lal kothi and Administrator's residencial quarters too will be occupied by GLP. Today's meeting was attended by most of the party followers of the Darjeeling hills and Terai and Dooars despite opposition from the anti-Gorkhaland forces existing in Siliguri.
Siliguri (WB), May 8 (PTI) Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) has called a 48-hour bandh on May 15 and May 16 in Darjeeling hills, Siliguri and a part of the Dooars region of Jalpaiguri district to shore up their flagging support base.
GJM president Bimal Gurung today called for a non-violent movement to press for their demand of "interim set up" and gave the bandh call in a public meeting at Sukna in Darjeeling district.
Having been politically alienated since he mooted the proposal for "interim set up" leaving behind demands for Gorkhaland, political commentators said GJM leaders called the bandh to revive the movement and put pressure on West Bengal government and Centre to arrange tripartite talks at political level to define the territory for the "interim set up".
Gurung has been carrying out a 'march for public contacts' for the past one month to restore GJM support base.
